Cerritos Library - August

To best serve patrons’ needs, advance registration is required for some Cerritos Library programs. Please see the information below to learn how and when to register for the programs which require registration. For more information, please call Cerritos Library at (562) 916-1388.

How to Register
In order to register, patrons must be in the City’s class registration database and have obtained a family account access PIN number and individual family member personal numbers. For additional information and/or to obtain the PIN numbers, please call the Library Reservation Desk at (562) 916-1388.

On-line registration
To check the availability of classes or to register for classes, please visit the Cerritos home page and look for the on-line registration link. The program, eConnect, is best viewed with Internet Explorer. Before registering for classes on-line, print the eConnect User’s Guide for step-by-step instructions. Only Visa and MasterCard will be accepted as payment. Computers at the Cerritos Library may be used to access eConnect. Cerritos Resident on-line registration for all programs listed begins Monday, August 1 at 10 a.m. Non-Resident on-line registration for all programs listed begins Monday, August 8 at 10 a.m.
*You will not receive confirmation by mail for classes registered on-line. Please print a receipt at the conclusion of your transaction and bring it with you to the first day of the event or class.

WIZARD OF OZ STORYTIME
Join us for a fun evening of stories and songs related to Dorothy's adventurous journey to the Emerald City. Participants are welcome to dress up as their favorite Wizard of Oz character. Space is limited to 40.

CHESS FOR KIDS
High school senior and United States Chess Federation expert Siddharth Somasundaram will teach the basics of chess to beginning and intermediate level players. Simple movement techniques of the pieces to complicated moves of castling and en passant will be taught for beginners while the intermediate group will learn common strategies to win games. Space is limited to 10 per session. The fee is $10 for each session. No refunds will be given.

CHINESE BRUSH CALLIGRAPHY
Cerritos Senior Center volunteer Lucie Wu will present an introduction to Chinese brush calligraphy. All art supplies will be provided by the Library. Space is limited to 15 participants. The fee is $5. No refunds will be given.

YOUNG REMBRANDTS/NOTRE DAME
Children will examine Gothic art and architecture and draw the facade of the Notre Dame Cathedral which is incredibly detailed with archways, statues, doors and windows. Drawing this medieval structure is an excellent exercise for drawing rectangles, circles and intricate patterns. Space is limited to 20 participants. The fee is $5. No refunds will be given.

DAVE BOATMAN/PIRATES
This educational and creative hour of cartoon instruction will inspire and motivate students in their love of cartoons and drawing. Space is limited to 50 participants.

CHILD CREATIVITY LAB
Come join the Zip Line Collaborative STEM Challenge. Using reclaimed and reusable materials, children will be challenged to design and create a carrier that can transport a tennis ball from one end of the zip line to the other without the ball falling out. The fee is $5 per child. No refunds will be given. Space is limited to 20 participants.

BOOK CLUB FOR KIDS
Join us for our first Book Club for kids where we will discuss the novel "The War that Saved My Life" by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. Children will work together to discuss the plot and important elements within the story such as themes, character development and imagery. Space is limited to 10 participants.

CHILD & TEEN READ ALOUD
Children who are able to read are invited to participate in special read aloud sessions. Children will be teamed up with energetic teens. To be eligible for this program, all participants must attend the first day of class for testing. Space is limited to 15 participants.

NEW SAT PRACTICE TEST
In collaboration with Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions, a free full-length new SAT practice test will be held for students in grades 9-11. Space is limited to 50 students. Test takers are encouraged to eat a hearty breakfast and arrive by 8:45 a.m. Please bring a calculator, two No. 2 pencils, and snacks to eat during very short breaks.
