2018 season features LA's best in music, dance, storytelling, and puppetry
The Skirball Cultural Center presents the 2018 season of its annual Family Amphitheater Performances series, held each summer in the Skirball’s outdoor amphitheater. Curated to delight visitors of all ages, this year’s lineup features an exciting group of LA-based musicians, dancers, storytellers, and puppeteers—all inspired by the Skirball’s summer exhibitions, Leonard Bernstein at 100 and The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited.
“Leonard Bernstein’s role as a musical storyteller and pioneering educator guided our selection of musical acts for the summer. We’re particularly delighted to celebrate his 100th birthday with performances of Bernstein classics during our closing weekend,” says Nina Silver, Head of Family Programs and Noah’s Ark. “And, in celebration of Jim Henson’s legacy, we’re expanding beyond music to bring storytelling and puppetry to the amphitheater this summer. Henson’s work inspires us, as well as many artists, to see the world through the eyes of others, whether they’re pink or green, whether they live in a nest or a trash can.”
As always, the summer-long series takes place under the canopy of the Skirball’s grand yet intimate amphitheater, where families are encouraged to sing, dance, and interact with performers. While here for the performances, families can also explore the galleries, make one-of-a-kind art projects in the Family Art Studio, and sift and sort through ancient artifacts at Dig It! Archaeology Adventures.
