Wading Pools

Lakewood Parks*
Wading  Pools (for youngsters 3-7 years old) at the following Lakewood Parks  will be open June 16 to Early September from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on the following  days.  

  • Mayfair Park:  Daily 
  • San Martin Park:  Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, and Sun
  • Del Valle Park:  Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, and Sun 
  • Boyar Park: Tues, Thurs, Sat, and Sun 
  • Palms Park:  Daily -Handicapped Accessible 
  • Bloomfield Park: Tues, Thurs, Sat and Sun

In  addition to the above, wading pool Wednesdays will be held at Del  Valle, Mayfair, Palms and San Martin parks on Wednesdays from June 20 to  August 22 from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Wading Pool Wednesdays

The wading pools at Mae Boyar, Del Valle, Mayfair and San Martin parks are typically open from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings from late June to late August.

Wading pools are usually open on the weekends from late May to late September between 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.


Swimmers must meet the following qualifications to enter the pool:

  • Unaccompanied swimmers are required to be at least 48 inches tall or have a valid Minnow Red Cross (Level 4) swimming card. Youngsters not meeting this requirement must be accompanied in the pool area by an adult (18 years or older) on a one-to-one basis.
  • Approved swimsuits are required. No cut-off pants, leotards, sweats or basketball shorts. No shirts, rash guards only. No water shoes.
  • In order to enter onto the pool deck, you must pay the entry fee.
  • Only those in proper swimwear may remain on the pool deck. All others must stay in the bleachers or grass area.
  • Swimmers with long hair must tie their hair in a pony tail.
  • No toys, inflatables, water wings or life jackets (except Coast Guard approved) allowed in the pool.
  • Swim diapers must be worn by all children four years and younger and are available for purchase at the pool.

Pool Rules

Lakewood Swim Cards are issued free with proof of Lakewood residency. (Bring your old card to simply renew it.) Cards are available at either pool during summer operating hours. In order to enter onto the pool deck, you must pay the entry fee. For fees and complete information, see the current Aquatics schedule.

The City of Lakewood operates two public swimming pools and six wading pools throughout the summer season.

Mayfair Pool is located at Mayfair Park, 5720 Clark Avenue at South Street. McCormick Pool is located at Bolivar Park, 3300 Del Amo Boulevard at Downey Avenue.

The season begins in late May, with pre-summer swim lessons and recreation swim starting Memorial Weekend.

Each swimming pool typically offers a variety of swim instruction programs, recreational swim opportunities, and adult fitness classes including Aqua Zumba and Shallow Water Aerobics classes. Check the current recreation catalog for information

Lakewood swim classes coincide with the Red Cross Certified Swim Classes and offer instruction in these categories:

  • Youth: For infant/preschool children ages 6 months to 5 years, and Levels 1-6 for ages 6-15 years
  • Adaptive: Introduction to water and swimming lessons for those with special needs (ages 3-17), such as hearing or visual impairment, developmental disabilities and special physical needs.
  • Semi-private swim lessons: Maximum three students per class. Limited time slots scheduled.
  • Private swim lessons: One instructor and one student. Offered on Saturdays at McCormick Pool (5 classes of 20 minutes instruction) and during post-summer at Mayfair Pool (8 classes of 20-minute instruction).
  • Adult: For ages 16 and older. Four one-hour lessons are typically offered for a two-week session.

Registration is available to everyone online at www.lakewoodcity.org/ecatalog or in person. Residents enjoy priority early online registration for swim lessons.

Ruth R. Caruthers Park, Bellflower

Open  Monday-Friday 12:00-3:00 p.m. for children ages 8 years & under.  All children must wear swimsuits, no exceptions. No lifeguard on duty at  this park. (562) 866-5684 


Carl Brenner Park, Buena Park

Pool is 25 feet long and 1-2 feet deep. Recommended for children 6 years & under. 

Open Monday - Friday 12:30 from May 28th - September 3rd 


Victoria Community Regional Park, Carson 

Park hours: Sunrise to Sunset

Liberty Park, Cerritos

Open from 10am 8pm daily


Cerritos Park East, Cerritos

Open from 10am - 9:30pm - daily


Westgate Park, Cerritos

In the past, the spray pool has been open 1-4pm during the summer. 


Central Park, Stanton

Open 12pm-5pm 

Every day between Memorial Day and Labor Day.


Harry M. Dotson Park, Stanton

Monday - Sunday 12-5 p.m.

The water play area operates from Memorial Day to Labor Day.


Atlantis Park, Garden Grove 

Cost: $2 per child or adult / 2 and under free- Cash only

Mondays- CLOSED

Tuesdays - Fridays - 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Saturdays - 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Sundays- 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

SPLASH PAD WATER PLAY RULES 1) To start, locate the blue post and touch the Activator on the top of the cap. 2) Running, pushing or rough play is not allowed. 3) Toddlers who are not potty trained must wear swim diapers. 4) Diapers are not allowed. 5) Swimsuits must be worn at all times. (boxers/ underwear & jeans/denim are not allowed) Water shoes are permissible. 6) Shoes, food, and beverages are not allowed in the water area. 7) Children less than 5 years old must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. 8) If the water area becomes too crowded, line and time limits will be implemented. 9) Park rules must be adhered to at all times


Sigler Park, Westminster

located at Sigler Park, 7200 Plaza St

Hours of operation for 2019:  

12 Noon - 5pm (weather permitting)

Weekends: May 25th - June 16th                  

Daily: June 22nd - September 2nd                

Note: Splash Pad shuts off 15 minutes before closing time.

Thursday, July 18th Splash Pad will open 2-5pm due to Safety Day.



Long Beach Towne Center, Long Beach

Spray pad and fountain in front of the movie theater.

September – April: noon - 5:00 PM
May – August: 10:00 AM -7:00 PM 


Lemon Park, Fullerton

The Spray Pool is open daily, May 31 through August 7 and weekends only through September 25 (plus Labor Day, Monday, September 5) from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Remember, you must wear a bathing suit to play in the Spray Pool.


Amelia Mayberry Park, Whittier

Marine Park (aka Mother’s Beach), Long Beach

Shallow swimming area, no waves, and lifeguard supervision during peak times



Alamitos Bay Beach, Long Beach

Bay Shore Ave and E Division St

No  waves, lifeguard supervision during peak times, shallow swimming area.  Bay Shore Ave is closed to vehicle traffic during the summer, making the  area a safe place for children. 



Playgrounds With Water & Mud




Huntington Central Park - Adventure Playground, Huntington Beach

Cost: $4.00 per child.  Adults 16 and older free. Cash only

Recommended for ages 5-12. Closed toed shoes required for ALL visitors

Open from June 17th - August 16th, . 

10am - 4pm, Monday through Saturday, closed Sundays and July 4th. All play ends at 3:40 pm.



Irvine Adventure Playground, Irvine

March-October. 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. (daily)

November-February. 10 a.m. - dusk (daily)
