With gentle humor and quirkiness, this sympathetic book demonstrates how to say goodbye to a beloved pet and give it a proper sendoff.

Children love their pets very much—and when the animals die, that loss can be hard to process. The End of Something Wonderful helps kids handle their feelings when they're hurting and can't find all the right words. In a warm, understanding, sometimes funny way, it guides children as they plan a backyard funeral to say goodbye, from choosing a box and a burial spot to giving a eulogy and wiping away tears. Most of all, it reassures them that it's not the end of everything . . . and that Something Wonderful can always happen again.

"The Many Colors of Harpreet Singh

by Supiya Kelkar Illustrated by Alla Marley

OVERVIEW

Harpreet Singh loves his colors—but when his family moves to a new city, everything just feels gray. Can he find a way to make life bright again?

Harpreet Singh has a different color for every mood and occasion, from pink for dancing to bhangra beats to red for courage. He especially takes care with his patkahis turban—smoothing it out and making sure it always matches his outfit. But when Harpreet's mom finds a new job in a snowy city and they have to move, all he wants is to be invisible. Will he ever feel a happy sunny yellow again?

REVIEW:  This is such a cute book. Kids go through so many emotions, feelings and moods and assigning a color to each emotion is a great idea. Children can have a hard time expressing what they are feeling or express themselves in a way that can be challenging to pin-point as a parent. In this book Harpreet expresses what he is feeling by wearing a different color patka to match his mood.  It is another way a kid can learn to show how they are feeling without feeling forced to express themselves in a specific way.  This is also a great way to expose kids to other cultures. At home we spoke about a patka, what it is and who wears them. Recommended to read with kids

"Moldilocks and the Three Scares - A Zombie Tale"

by Lynne Marie Illustrated by David Rodriguez Lorenzo

OVERVIEW

A zombie-tastic take on a favorite fairy tale!

“A horror spoof with a big heart: Lorenzo’s acrylic and colored pencil cartooning offers a warm glow, and readers will cheer for this undead family that finally feels complete.” —Publishers Weekly

Forget Goldilocks and the three bears—MOLDILOCKS and the THREE SCARES are here, in a delightful new version of the popular story. Papa Scare (a monster), Mama Scare (a mummy), and Baby Scare (a vampire) live in a haunted house where they eat finger sandwiches and alpha-bat soup. One night, they go out to walk their dog (a bloodhound, of course) to let their soup cool down. While they’re away, in walks the zombie Moldilocks, looking for food, a chair, and a bed that’s just right. Kids will love this hauntingly funny story with its surprise ending!

REVIEW:  Perfect for Halloween and Fall. Get your blanket and gather the kids around for a great family read-a-loud book. A new take on a classic story.  It is really engaging. Perfect for bed time and just winding down for the night. Scary and silly enough to keep everyone engaged. The illustrations are fun, funny and just scary enoughYou will find yourself acting out the book, which the kids will absolutely love. I highly recommend this book to add to your home and school library
